Detroit has rich and interesting history. It was established by French fur traders in the 1600s.
During the past 400 years, Detroit has been influenced by not only the French but the English and native Americans. As time moved forward, Detroit became home to many other ethnic groups from Asia, Europe, and Africa. The traditions of all those people have made Detroit one of the most interesting cities in the world.
Detroit is very interesting and everyone should learn more about the great city. I did a basic Web search and found some good Web sites featuring the Motor City.
The first one I found was www.historydetroit.com.
The site breaks down Detroit's history eras and has sections on people, streets, stats and much more. It even has a daily Trivia section that offered the following tidbit for March 7, 2009:
Detroit's first skyscraper, the Hammond Building, was built in 1889. It was razed in 1956.
Another good Web site featuring Detroit history is www.detroit1701.org. This site offers some history but a lot of other facts and information about the city. It lists industries, historical sites, museums, sports and much more.

The site is sponsored by Wayne State University. There are many categories. While the site looks a little intimidating at first, once you click around a bit you get the hang of finding information.
http://www.michiganhistorymagazine.com/ is good site for Michigan history but also has good information on Detroit. Check it out.
