detroit lions1 Doh and 16 Baby!Yes ... what better way to start off our new Michigan focused blog than celebrating Bill Ford Sr.'s total ineptness as an NFL owner.

Congratulations Bill, you've set a new NFL record!

Matt Millen was made president and GM of the Detroit Lions in 2001.  Finally, fired in September 2008, the team Matt built went 0-16, the first time in NFL history a team has gone winless in an entire season.

It's no surprise, because the team that Matt built has only won 31 games in 8 seasons.  It's a shame however, because  Detroit is such an old-fashioned, blue-collar town that loves its sports.  From Bloomfield to the Cass Corridor, we're a burger-eating, sports watching bunch.

Bill Ford should work in government, afterall, he's got the same philosophy.  If it's not working, give it more money and authority.  If it is working ... well, that hasn't happened too often.

We had the amazing Barry Sanders! But the front office made blunder after blunder, even getting rid of his offensive line, and ... Barry quit.  He quit football all together.  Couldn't take it anymore.

In the NFL, with it's salary caps and free agency, it's next to impossible to go 0-16.  It's so difficult to pull off this feat, that this is the first time it's ever happened!  Let's face it, there are better odds of any given team winning the Super Bowl than there is of going 0-16!

It takes great effort Mr. Ford, to accomplish failure of this magnitude.

And what do Detroit fans have to look forward to next year?

It's clear Lions' Ford doesn't care about winning

The stunning revelation that Lions Owner William Clay Ford has decided to retain chief operating officer Tom Lewand and acting general manager Martin Mayhew, perhaps in their current front-office capacities, while also keeping an "open mind" about the possible return of head coach Rod Marinelli next year, is the most maddening development in the midst of the march to imperfection.

The situation is hopeless.

Personally, I'm not sure Ford even understands the difference between a win and a loss.

It's hopeless indeed.
