Now that the government owns most of GM and and is on its way to doing the same to Chrysler, what can the automakers expect? Well, President Obama's comments at Wednesday's televised press conference tells you all you need to know: Automakers will be forced to go green or close down.

I am paraphrasing here: The President said he doesn't want to be in the car business, but he expects American car companies to make hybrid vehicles because foreign car companies do it.

Ahhh...protecting Mother Earth no matter the cost, but allowing abortions and having our tax dollars pay for it. I have a problem with that but I guess I am the nut job, tea bagger so my opinion doesn't matter. But I digress.

The plan is clear. Now that the U.S.A is in charge of two of the Big 3, the public will have small, eco-cars dumped on us and all sorts of tax credits will made to buy them. If Americans continue to decide they want big cars and trucks, then Big Brother...er...the Government will use force to get us to buy what the Liberals want us to buy.

By force, I don't mean physical force, I mean economic coercion. If people continue to buy gas guzzlers, then the Government will raise the gas tax so high we will be paying $5 a gallon, which has been the target amount by Al Gore and his idiotic cronies for years.

America is becoming a place where the people will be punished for making economic decisions that differ from the Government's. Soon, we will get punished for keeping our thermostats too high or too low. There are people in the government that want to tax us for where we drive, how much we drive, when we drive and what we drive.

If you think I'm nuts, look at the energy-saving light bulbs we will be forced to use. If you break one, you have to leave the room because the stuff inside is poisonous! When it comes to the eco-terrorists - I mean the people that take Al Gore seriously - care more about trees, acorns and toads than human life. But I digress.

The ultimate goal of the Government here is to take control of the automakers to build a fleet of green cars and force them on the public.

People who truly care about the economy and the American worker want a sensible energy policy that does NOT include cap and trade (that will kill jobs and raise energy costs); drilling for oil in America; sensible tax credits for people who make their homes energy efficient; and tax credits for corporations who explore clean energy sources.

Look at what the Bush administration. It give cash back to companies that build windmills - AND THE WINDMILLS DO NOT HAVE TO BE ATTACHED THE ENERGY GRID!

Why don't the politicians that illegally punished AIG employees for receiving their LEGALLY EARNED bonuses go after these corporations that bilk billions from us under this energy scam?

This country needs sensible policy and taking over automakers to force them to make green cars is NOT sensible. It will destroy the industry because not enough people want those cars. And the Government forcing us to buy them won't work.

Until next time, enjoy Michigan.

I am a undergrad college student who recently got kicked out of my house for wanting to go to college. Funny right!! Well whatever, I am staying with my sister and I want to get a decent job but everything around here is either to far or dont pay enough. I already work part time as a Photo Tech but I need something to help my sister pay the bills. I tried to apply for one of those free car donation place and they were A#$%^&*(. I knew it was a long shot but I gave it a try and it made me feel more like s*&^. I was just wondering if anyone knew if their is any place where a college student can apply for a car donation. I have proof from school teachers and friends. I am not lying I just really need to start helping out my sister. I would like this place to be preferably form MA or NH. Thank you and I hope you can help

Most of the problem is with the oil companies. They will never truly allow viable alternative energy because they stand to lose the HUGE profits they are making.

Oh c’mon! If you and I invented or discovered a new, more efficient, cheaper source of energy, the oil companies couldn’t stop us from selling it. Heck, we’d quickly become the new “robber barons.” LOL!

Besides, the average profit margin on a gallon of gas is 2.5%, so if gas is 3 bucks a gallon, they make about 8 cents per gallon. On the other hand, Uncle Sam collects 59 cents per gallon of gas. Then of course, there’s state taxes on top of that!

It ain’t the oil companies screwing us over … it’s the 545 “rulers” in Washington who are giving us the big screw.

You as an Olson, Ryan, should know full well how secret funding works. I have no doubt oil and OPEC interests haven’t somehow found a convenient way to “support” the GOP.

    Lol…

Ryan, I agree, unfortunately all there is is talk. Alternative fuels have been discussed since my grandfather was an engineer at Ford from the ’50s to the ’70s. Most of the problem is with the oil companies. They will never truly allow viable alternative energy because they stand to lose the HUGE profits they are making. Conspiracy theory? Oh yeah. But true.

Wade – good points and they are completely true. The problem I am trying to highlight is that we need to get away from oil-based products/transportation as soon as possible. Oil is a major problem: it’s dirty, it creates national security issues by funneling money to petro-dictatorships, etc. There needs to be a paradigm shift in the way we think in this country because we have become, as Bush stated, “addicted to oil”. It is time to get serious about ending this addiction.

Green cars cost more money to build and cost the consumer more to purchase, are too small and too dangerous when on the road with the average vehicle. The biggest complaint about green cars? They are not anywhere as green as they are touted to be.

Electric cars would produce a strain on the already overloaded electrical system and require more coal fired power plants and more coal to be produced. How green is that?

E85. Ugh. Worse fuel milage than gas and produces more pollution to make than it saves, plus all the corn being sold to make E85 is causing world wide hunger and famine.

Yeah, the only green I’m for is in East Lansing, Michigan. Go Spartans.

  8. RyanOlsen Says:

Right, and we shouldn’t build green cars because gas will always be cheap and we should depend on foreign oil for everything. OPEC should start donating to the Republican party along with Big Oil.

  9. Bill Says:

Apparently the union at Ford (the same UAW?) didn’t ruin them…Ford didn’t take any government money. And Ford isn’t being told today what to do. Not very many stories out there about that, either.

I love how these companies want zero government rules and zero worker rules when times are good–but if they’re sinking they’ll gladly take the socialist path and get a life raft from the government. Pretty hypocritical. GM and Chrysler deserve the control the government now has over them.

  10. theCL Says:

    Bill,

Unions weren’t even mentioned in the post, and he’s complaining about GWB too.

There are legions of reasons why this happened, poor management, heavy regulations, and yes, the UAW is in part to blame too. But the blame game isn’t the point here. There’s a reason that pick-up trucks are the #1 selling vehicle in America … because that’s what people want!

Forcing GM to make “green cars” that very few will actually buy, is a recipe for yet more disaster here in Michigan. And “cap and trade” is a HUGE tax on everyone! A tax, as people, we simply cannot afford.

  11. Bill Says:

If it were the unions that had been obstinate and caused this bankruptcy, you right bloggers would have been all over that. Instead, this story is buried on most blogs and if run at all done so with an anti-Obama spin.

Why? Because the reason this happened is the investment bankers and debt-owners wouldn’t make concessions. They were greedily waiting for more government money. Where’s the outcry about that? Granted, it’s not as fun for you as when the unions draw a line in the sand (you know, the working class).
