Michigan is facing huge deficits because of out-of-control spending and the loss of tax revenues due to the loss of jobs in the state.
So what is Gov. Jennifer Granholm proposing? More taxes and eliminating tax breaks. I am not surprised. The governor did nothing to stop all the job loss so she has to go to the one thing she knows best: Sucking up people's money.
As part of her budget, many tax breaks for businesses will be eliminated. I just don't get it. Granholm was behind the massive tax breaks to the movie studios to get them to film their movies here and she was trumpeting how that brought thousands of jobs to Michigan.
Why not do that for other industries as well? Granholm has no idea how to run a state. I am so tired of complaining about her, I don't have the energy to write about her failed leadership; the broken promises she gave during her two campaigns; the over-burdened taxpayers of the state who keep getting their pockets picked by this over-spending administration; and the inability of anybody in Lansing to brings jobs to this state.
Taxes were raised in 2007 and the economy got worse.
Granholm also proposed raising taxes on cigarettes, live entertainment, bottled water and eliminating the earned income tax credit; plus some other ideas that will hurt the people of this state.
I guess we'll have to live with this mess for a couple of years, but the voters need to take a long look at the next election for governor and stay away from anyone who has been a part of Granholm's failed tenure. That means Lt. Gov. John Cherry.
People of Michigan, we are in for a world of fiscal pain the next few years because Granholm sold us a bill of goods about she was going to "blow us away."
She blew all right. And the wind from that whisked away hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Until next time, enjoy Michigan and find ways to make this a better place to live.
