I have been referring to the Detroit City Council as a Clown School. After listening to members singing, wearing tiaras, claiming that everyone who disagrees with them are racists, denying white people the privilege of saying President Obama's name and killing a deal that would dump $288 million into the city to fix Cobo, I feel I was out of line for the name calling.

How dare I call the Council a Clown School... that is an insult to clown schools everywhere. I know, it's an old joke but I couldn't resist.

Every day it seems some council person says something so racist, so ridiculous or so ignorant, I have to laugh or I'd cry.

Here's the latest. It was taken from a Detroit Free Press report.

Today, Detroit City Councilwoman Martha Reeves -- known as the lead singer of Motown’s own Martha and the Vandellas -- said she was pleased that comedian and “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno will perform a free, local concert for the out-of-work masses on April 7.

However, Reeves was not thrilled that the show, which is scheduled to be at the Palace of Auburn Hills, wouldn’t take place in the city limits, like possibly at Ford Field.

Council President Monica Conyers asked Reeves, head of the council’s Entertainment Task Force, to contact Leno, or his people, to make a change of venue happen.

“Who do I call?” Reeves asked, looking around the council table to no one in particular. “Who do I call?”

I say Reeves should call someone who knows something about running a city.

Did you catch the irony? They suggested a show be held at Ford Field. Why not Cobo? Oh, that's right. Cobo is falling apart and the Council can't get past its own bias and bigotry long enough to accept help to fix it.

The Council is upset because Leno is hosting a show in Auburn Hills and not Detroit. Why should it matter? He is doing something nice and Reeves and Conyers complain about the location.

Don't they know Detroiters can just as easily drive north as suburbanites can drive south? I guess it's racist to ask a Detroiter (by listening to Conyers, one would think all city residents are black) to drive out of the city.

The sad thing is the Council will waste time pursuing this nonsense. Don't they have anything better to do? Like, I don't know, solve REAL problems.

Clown School may be too kind of a description for this group.

Until next time, enjoy Michigan and try to see Leno.

You’re giving clowns a bad name here…. I mean, the last I checked, a clown act had a defined purpose and ended very quickly.

    Dear Jay Leno,

Please ignore the Detroit City Council unless they’re the butt of your jokes.

They do not represent most metro-Detroiters. DETROITERS? Yes. They represent them. Technically, legally, electorally, philosophically… yep.

But metro-Detroiters? And the rest of us here in the sticks? Nope.

In fact, we don’t much care for them and their brand of racism.

You were right to pick Auburn Hills. The Palace is awesome.

    Sincerely,

    Several million sane Michigan residents
