old english d by dan cox MI. J. Blogger: Tigers DiaryThis is my first installment of my Tigers Diary. Throughout the season, I will be posting my thoughts about the season. I will try to post twice a week, so please check back.

The Tigers started the season yesterday with a 12-5 loss at Toronto. Ace pitcher Justin Verlander went 3.2 innings and gave up 8 runs.

I could have handled a loss, but that fact Verlander looked nervous and wild on the mound, scares me. If the Tigers are to be competitive, Verlander has to pitch well this year.

I think it's way too early to worry about the team after one game, but I think there are some warning signs already.

If Verlander can't anchor this pitching staff, the season will be lost. The rest of the starters are good but not great and who knows how things will shake out with rookie Rick Porcello.

Despite the loss, there were a few good signs. Nate Robertson pitched well in one inning of relief; Curtis Granderson looks good as usual; and Brandon Inge looked okay at the plate. Not great but okay.

The Tigers have a long season ahead of them and I will be there to comment on it. Please leav you commenst as well.

Until next time, enjoy Michigan and the Tigers.
