Unfortunately for the Yoopers hoping to find economic deliverance from renewed mining interests, they are now outnumbered by many others from Michigan's south side that feel that the whitefish and pastie industries should be plenty for Yoopers to live on. I understand too that Spock absolutely loves him some pasties.
If people from Michigan's U.P. (and indeed from all of its rural areas) want to preserve their ability to look after their own best interests, they will make it much easier on themselves if the stop buying into a political philosophy that prevents the individual or the few from having to succumb to the desires of the many ...

Obamacare to hit deficit-ridden Michigan with $500M Medicaid hike
[T]he true cost of Obamacare in both the House and Senate versions is far more than advertised. Taking a page out of the Enron playbook, Democrats are hiding true costs. Some is hidden in the "doctor fix" where reimbursements for doctors via Medicare will be cut 20% which will have the effect of doctors dropping patients. That alone hides one quarter of a trillion dollars in cost. The other even less talked about hidden cost is in the extra load that all states will face at a time when many are in deficit already. As is the Democrat modus operandi, even more people will be funneled into Medicaid, which will be in large part the state's responsibility.
It's a scam folks. Socialized health care is a scam.

The AARP is urging its dwindling members to back a proposal that will cut from Medicare, provide funds for assisted suicide and death panels, and encourage the system to start rationing healthcare. Why would the AARP support this agenda? Why are you still a member of the AARP?
Why does the UAW support the healthcare plan by the Democrats? ... The UAW is supporting a plan that would trade the quality coverage it has already bargained for with the government plan.
I don't understand the debate at all- there is no money for this program, it will raise costs, it will cause millions to be dropped from current plans, it will destroy the private insurance industry and lead to a loss in all of those tax dollars that industry provides, and it has many controversial and polarizing provisions in it like money for abortions (cut out of House version but in Senate version), money for assisted suicide, money for death panels, and many other controversial provisions.

Our Senate has morphed from a political body into a hall of Angels. If they have the power to cure us of our fear of death and illness, why don't they just wave an angelic hand and miraculously cure all of our diseases to begin with instead of birthing some entanglement of bureaucracies whose primary cost saving feature will be the creation of a big ass queue?

Governor Granholm Abolishes Snowmobile Advisory Committee!
LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued Executive Order 2009-45, creating a new Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) to protect and conserve Michigan's air, water and other natural resources. The new department will assume the powers and functions of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), which are abolished by the executive order. The order takes effect January 17, 2010.
Who are the experts in the world of snowmobiling, snowmobilers or the non-motorized community? The Michigan Snowmobile Association was shocked by the announcement. President Don Reed condemned the action. “Snowmobile grant sponsors relied on the SAC committee and MSA to work with the administration to move our program forward” Don Says, “Without their input I have very grave concerns for the future of snowmobiling in the state of Michigan!” When snowmobilers pay 100% of the cost of snowmobile trails, and contribute over a billion dollars a year to Michigan’s ailing economy, why mess with a proven winner?
Because Granholm's a proven loser. That's why.

Is it caused by jealousy? Sarah Palin has published a best selling book and her Facebook page, where she publishes her op-ed’s, has over 1 million subscribers. Laura’s paper has a print circulation of 167,849 and less than 600,000 online readers. That’s gotta sting, just a little bit. And, I’m not sure, but, I would bet that Obama doesn’t read Laura Berman’s column, but he (or his ‘people’) does read Sarah’s FB op-ed’s.
