When the trading deadline passed and the Detroit Tigers only acquired pitcher Jarrod Washburn, I was dissapointed because the offense was anemic and needed another hitter, especially a left-hander.
That issue was addressed as the team traded for Baltimore Orioles infielder/outfielder Aubrey Huff. It was a good deal. Huff can hit for power and provide some protection for Miguel Cabrera. He can also play thrid base, which means Brandon Inge can rest his sore knee.
With Huff, Carlos Guillen returning and rookie catcher Alex Avila providing some left-handed pop - not to mention Magglio Ordonez recent fire at the plate - the offense seems to be in better shape as the pennant race heats up.
It also looks like the Tigers could do some damage if they make the playoffs.
I am a lot happier about the Tigers' chances now than I was 48 hours ago.
The pieces are in place, now let's play some serious baseball.
Until next time, enjoy Michigan and Gooooo TIGERS!!!!
