I understand cultural phenomenons and how something can grip the world's attention, so all the hype around "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" doesn't surprise me.
You have a cast of good-looking young people doing supernatural stuff. Throw in a romance and BOOM! you have a blockbuster book series and movies that will rake in billions.
I have no problem with the whole "Twilight" craze. It's simple capitalism. Stephenie Meyer came up with a product - a story - and produced it in the form of a book. Consumers wanted it, therefore it was a success.
I like to keep track of pop culture crazes even if I don't like them. There are countless musical acts that are big that I don't care for. The same goes for popular television shows and movies. Can't like them all.
As for "Twilight", I never read the books, which I hear are very well written, but I saw the first movie and thought it was okay. I'd give it three our of 5 stars because I enjoyed the special effects.
My only problem with the movie was it had too many clichés. But once I thought it out and realized the story was meant for 15-year-old girls who haven't seen this form of boy/girl romance a million times, i chilled out and enjoyed the movie for what it was.
I'll go see the new movie in a few weeks when the crowds die down and I will give it a chance to entertain me. I doubt I will read the books.
The funny thing about "Twilight" is how it has gripped many of the women I know in the 25-40 age bracket. Some people think it's silly for women that age to be taken in by a teen romance, but I say what the heck.
I watch Transformers movies, Star Trek and cartoons. Who am I to judge.
